Android based Blaupunkt Capetown 940 launched in India

Blaupunkt India launched its first android based double-din multimedia navigation system for the aftermarket – the Blaupunkt Cape Town 940.

With a 90 year legacy of innovation, Blaupunkt has shaped the infotainment industry – from the world’s first car radio, a number of game changing technology innovations in the space of tuner, navigation, multimedia and digital radio technology, the world’s first internet radio in 2009 and now the Cape Town 940. Innovation in automotive radios is here and Blaupunkt promises to take the in-car entertainment experience to a completely different level with the launch of Cape Town 940.

Priced at Rs 54,990, Cape Town 940 offers features that are unmatched even in today’s premium luxury segment cars. It runs on the android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean operating system. The product is characterized by a high-grade styling, large 6.8″ capacitive touch screen display, an exciting customisable user interface to match your mood & style, internet connectivity via WiFi, smart phone integration for complete command and control of smartphones via the radio, android music player app, HDMI/MHL, independent rear seat entertainment zone, Bluetooth Twin connect in order to connect 2 phones simultaneously, powerful acoustic performance for a theatre like sound experience with Blaupunkt’s signature sound clarity, optional all India  MAP on SD card  provides connected navigation with live traffic updates for select cities(Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai), speed alerts, lane guidance etc. and much much more.

The radio also comes with a cool Mirror Mode feature that allows users to project the screen of their smartphones onto the radio display with complete control of Apple and Android phones via the radio. This allows users to enjoy all functionality and applications on their phone via the in-dash radio and to rear screens. This is far more flexible and powerful than today’s smartphone integration solutions like Mirrorlink, which mobile handset OEMs have been slow to adopt.

While the automotive industry continues to work towards realizing a connected car experience, Blaupunkt has taken a big leap in this direction, with the launch of Cape Town 940. Commenting on the launch, Preeti Bakshi, Marketing Head Blaupunkt India said, “The Cape Town is a major step change in functionality, performance and technology from today’s multimedia navigation radios on the market. This radio offers a cutting edge technology experience in terms of connectivity, integration, processing power, multimedia performance, tuner quality and flexible user interface. And with android and internet access, it opens up a realm of opportunities that were not earlier possible in a car radio – users can now choose from a variety of applications included but not limited to games, rich media/video content, internet radio for 20000+ channels and ad-free music, podcasts, social media applications, news, weather, financial market, music apps etc. either pre-deployed or via the android app marketplace.
